<p> [Election is held to fill vacancy caused by resignation of Representative
Dan Stone. Lincoln does not vote, perhaps because of friendship with Baker and sense of
obligation to Calhoun, under whom he served as deputy surveyor, 1833-1835. Baker opposed

The court continues eight attachment cases in which Stuart & Lincoln are
engaged. In <name type='case'>Neff and wife v. Holmes</name>, $2,000
damage suit, Dummer and Lincoln for defendant enter motion to strike suit from docket.
The court gives them permission to open the plaintiff's depositions in <name type='case' key='L04679'>Trailor v. Radford</name>.<bibl default='NO'>Record.</bibl>

<p> A short session of court is held in the morning before a ceremony for the laying
of the state house cornerstone. The court appoints Lincoln guardian <ital>ad litem</ital> for
the infant heirs of Shadrach J. Campbell, defendants in <name type='case' key='L04809'>Weden v. Campbell et al.</name>. Lincoln represented Lucinda Mason and Noah
Mason Jr., complainants in two chancery cases, <name type='case' key='L03941'>Mason v. Mason et al.</name> and <name type='case' key='L03940'>Mason v. Mason
et al.</name>. On Lincoln's motion, the court orders the clerk to issue alias subpoenas in both

<p> Stuart & Lincoln obtain a divorce decree for their client Ruth
Ethridge in <name type='case' key='L03230'>Ethridge v. Ethridge</name>.
Stuart & Lincoln represent Seth Cutter in two appeal cases, <name type='case' key='L03106'>Cutter v. Cassady</name> and <name type='case' key='L03107'>Cutter v. Cassady</name>. By consent of both parties, the
judgment of the justice of peace in both cases is reversed and Cutter pays all court
costs in both courts. The court overrules Lincoln's demurrer filed March 17, 1837, in
the assumpsit case, <name type='case' key='L04723'>Torrey v.
Green</name>. Stuart, Lincoln, and Logan appear for the complainants in the chancery

for Abner Y. Ellis, William Herndon, and Aaron Coffman in three attachment
cases, <name type='case' key='L03177'>Ellis v. Smith</name>,
<name type='case' key='L03544'>Herndon v. Smith</name>, and
<name type='case' key='L03092'>Coffman v. Smith</name>. Lincoln
files answer as guardian <ital>ad litem</ital> of the infant heirs of Shadrach
J. Campbell, defendants in <name type='case' key='L04809'>James
Weden v. Campbell et al.</name> Stuart & Lincoln have eight cases called,
in one, <name type='case' key='L04813'>Webb v. Watson</name>,
they obtain a default judgment for their client James G. Webb, and a jury
