[Election is held to fill vacancy caused by resignation of Representative Dan Stone. Lincoln does not vote, perhaps because of friendship with Baker and sense of obligation to Calhoun, under whom he served as deputy surveyor, 1833-1835. Baker opposed division of Sangamon favored by Calhoun. Baker is elected 1,178 to 872. Theodore C. A short session of court is held in the morning before a ceremony for the laying of the state house cornerstone. The court appoints Lincoln guardian ad litem for the infant heirs of Shadrach J. Campbell, defendants in Weden v. Campbell et al.. Lincoln represented Lucinda Mason and Noah Mason Jr., complainants in two chancery cases, Mason v. Mason et al. and Mason v. Mason et al.. On Lincoln's motion, the court orders the clerk to issue alias subpoenas in both cases. Record.

Stuart & Lincoln obtain a divorce decree for their client Ruth Ethridge in Ethridge v. Ethridge. Stuart & Lincoln represent Seth Cutter in two appeal cases, Cutter v. Cassady and Cutter v. Cassady. By consent of both parties, the judgment of the justice of peace in both cases is reversed and Cutter pays all court costs in both courts. The court overrules Lincoln's demurrer filed March 17, 1837, in the assumpsit case, Torrey v. Green. Stuart, Lincoln, and Logan appear for the complainants in the chancery case, Wright et al. v.
