Fortress Monroe, VA.

President consults with Flag Officer Goldsborough at Fortress Monroe, Va., on attempt to land troops on Sewell's Point under cover of navy fire. Lincoln, with Secs. Chase and Stanton , goes to Fort Wool, Va., to watch action. Later from tugboat stationed mile behind gunboats watches shelling of Sewell's Point and Craney Island all afternoon. Chester D.
