To editor of Louisville "Journal," George D. Prentice, Lincoln explains his reluctance to restate his position in order to calm southern apprehensions. He is already on record. Opponents are eager for anything on which to base "new misrepresentations," and he does not care to put weapons in their hands. Lincoln writes polite notes to Mrs. Eliza A.
