Lincoln writes four letters recommending Whigs for various offices held by Democrats. To W. B. Warren, clerk of Second Grand Division of state Supreme Court, Lincoln writes that he wishes Edwards, or if he withdraws, Morrison, to have General Land Office; but "if the office could be secured to Illinois by my consent to accept it, and not otherwise, I give that consent."
