Lincoln and Murray McConnel speak. Lincoln tries to unite Whigs and Free Soil men. McConnel accuses him of misrepresenting his constituents by his attitude on war. Lincoln refuses to believe that majority favored war, whereupon McConnel cites Whig defeat in last congressional election.
