Logan & Lincoln participate in four cases in the Sangamon County Circuit Court. In the case of Wagoner v. Porter et al., Logan & Lincoln represent plaintiff George Wagoner and ask the court's permission to take the deposition of William Porter, a defendant; the court grants their request. Lincoln writes a petition to Illinois governor Thomas Carlin, requesting clemency for Michael Hill of Sangamon County, who was convicted of manslaughter in the death of Hill's neighbor, Mr. Lewis. Lincoln, along with 158 others, including all of the jurors from the case, sign the petition. In the petition, Lincoln describes Hill as "an elderly, respectable, and peaceful citizen, with a large and respected family."
