The Illinois Supreme Court appoints attorneys Abraham Lincoln and Albert T. Bledsoe to serve as "examiners" for Benjamin F. James, who wishes to practice law in Illinois. The Court notes that James, of Tazewell County, "presented . . . satisfactory evidence of his good moral character." James passes Lincoln and Bledsoe's examination, and the Court deems that James possesses the "fitness and capacity" to gain admission into the Illinois bar.
