DeWitt Court opens two-day term. Lincoln calls up suit of his own against Spencer Turner, whom he successfully defended on murder charge, for fee of $200. Turner defaults and Lincoln gets judgment on Turner's note for $200 and damages. William Turner is to show cause at next term why he should not be made party to judgment.Record.

[Champaign Circuit Court opens two-day term at Urbana.]

In the Champaign County Circuit Court case of Brownfield et al. v. Brownfield et al., Lincoln completes a form directing the county sheriff to notify the defendants to appear in court "on the second Monday in...May next." Lincoln represents the plaintiffs, including Mary Brownfield, the widow of James Brownfield, who died without a will. The family is in court to settle the estate. Whig state central committee composed of Lincoln, A. G. Henry, J. F. Sped, E. D. Baker, and W. L. May issues call for state convention to be held in Springfield December 20, 1841 to nominate candidates for governor and lieut. governor. Lincoln purchases from his father and mother 40-acre tract in Coles County for $200. Thomas Lincoln purchased this tract December 31, 1840, from his stepson John D. Johnston for $50.
